The Brydon Take — What Have You Got to Lose?
“Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.” — Bruce Lee
If you’re going to survive this year, you have to identify them and then trust the patterns.
I’ve laid out what I believe is happening in this series. Through these 10 posts I’ve shared what the historical evidence shows. I’ve given you practical actions you can take. And I’ve been honest that I don’t have all the answers.
Here’s the thing I keep coming back to. When you’re snowboarding through trees, the instinct is to look at the trees. To focus on what you need to avoid. To stare at the obstacles.
And every snowboarder knows what happens when you stare at the trees.
You hit them.
You go where you look. Always.
The businesses that stare at the economic problems — the fuel prices, the interest rates, the political mess — and build their entire strategy around avoiding those things? They’ll hit them. Because that’s where their attention is. That’s where their energy goes.
The businesses that look through the trees — that look at where they want to be, focusing on building something rather than defending against something — those are the ones that come through. Not unscathed. Not without bruises. But through.
I’m not going to pretend I’ve got it all figured out. I’m navigating the same trees you are. My own business, my own life, my own challenges. I still haven’t got it nailed down – I’m in it. But I trust the patterns. 250 years of evidence says the same thing every time: the people who see clearly, move early, stay useful, and build forward — they’re the ones who make it.
And if I’m wrong about all of this?
Fine. I will gladly go on social media and admit it.
But here’s my arthritis logic: when I was told I had an incurable degenerative disease and chose to try a different path, I had nothing to lose. The conventional path led to spinal fusion and a lifetime of medication. My path might not work — but what was the downside of trying?
Same logic applies here. What have you got to lose by listening to even half of what I’m sharing?
If I’m wrong and this is just a blip — the sun comes up tomorrow, Iran and the USA make peace, oil prices drop, inflation eases, banks cut interest rates, and we all take a collective breath — then you’ll have a stronger business, more cash in reserve, a clearer direction, and better relationships. None of that hurts you.
But if I’m right — if we really are heading into something bigger than anything we’ve faced in our lifetimes — then maybe we should take a leaf from the people who had to endure their version of what we’re facing now. Listen to what those who did better did differently from those who didn’t.
And make our move.
