Don’t Wait for the Government

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” — Albert Einstein

“I’ll say this plainly because someone needs to.”

Don’t wait for the government to solve this. Don’t wait for them to help. They can’t and they won’t.

They’ll be too busy trying to help themselves. And even if they wanted to help, they lack the ability — because you can’t fix what’s going on using the same thinking that got us here in the first place. Their advisers will keep using the same models. Their economists will keep making the same projections. And their policies will keep targeting yesterday’s problems with yesterday’s tools.

Nothing will change. Apart from us feeling on our own. Again.

COVID ring any bells?

The people who came through COVID best weren’t the ones who waited for government support programmes. They were the ones who looked at reality, made their own decisions, and moved. Some of those decisions were hard. Some were wrong. But they were better than standing still waiting for permission or rescue.

The same applies now. Except this time, I believe the disruption is bigger, deeper, and longer than COVID. This isn’t a 6-month lockdown followed by a bounce. It is a structural transformation that will play out over years.

You’re on your own. Make peace with that. And then make your move.
