Your Life Pays You. Choose a Better Payment Plan.
If you’re addicted to your current life, you don’t quit by force.
You quit by replacing the payoff.
Because no human stops a behaviour that’s paying them… unless something else pays them better.
So here’s the punch: Stop trying to change your habits. Start changing your payoffs.
Do this in order:
1) Name the payoff (brutally)
What does your current pattern give you immediately?
- relief
- distraction
- comfort
- certainty
- identity
- an excuse
- moral high-ground
- numbness
- attention
If you can’t name the payoff, you’ll keep pretending you ‘really don’t know why’ you repeat it.
You do. You just don’t want to say it out loud.
2) Name the cost (equally brutally)
Not ‘someday’. What is it costing you right now?
- energy
- money
- self-respect
- intimacy
- momentum
- health
- truth
And ask yourself this: ‘How much is this costing me the person I could have been?‘
3) Replace the payoff (or relapse is guaranteed)
If your phone gives you relief, you don’t ‘use less phone’. Instead build a life that generates relief without the screen.
If chaos gives you identity, you don’t ‘be calmer’. Instead build an identity that earns respect through stability.
If victimhood gives you protection, you don’t ‘be positive’. Instead build capability until you no longer need protection.

And this brings me to my leadership shift:
I’m done trying to help humans by carrying them.
I’m building a way for humans to carry themselves.
That’s my new addiction: helping humans help themselves.
Not by helping, rescuing, or doing it for them. And not by pleading or explaining harder either.
But by building alternatives that work — and leaving the door open for anyone ready to walk through it.
So you know my new addiction. Whats stopping you? What’s your new addiction going to be? Who are you going to become? How will you replace the payoff? And how will you think about this as yet another end of financial year ends?
Two ways to take the next step, depending on how deep you want to go:
CTA 1 — Quick hit (low effort)
Email me one word:
PAYOFF
And tell me the one pattern you keep repeating.
I’ll reply (as I can) with the payoff I think you’re protecting — and the first replacement lever to test.
CTA 2 — Go further (early access, no pressure)
If you liked what you read here and want to discover some newer (better) addictions to better your business, life or world … join the early access list for my upcoming book:
Teach a Man to BusinessIP
Don’t get put off by the word ‘business’. Because even as an employee, you’re in business — and once you see that, you stop waiting to be saved and start building leverage.
Early access simply means you’ll be first to know when it’s ready — and first to see the ideas that help you BE the new you (instead of repeatedly trying to DO your way out of the old one).
